Chemicals \ Tissue Stains

Tissue Stain Comments

For Mohs Sections, or biopsies or excised tissue.

Black, blue and red are as originally described by Dr. Moh's. Black is from waterproof black drawing ink. Blue is from laundry bluing, which has been concentrated by removing water, reducing volume by 1/2. Red is 25% merbromin (mercurochrome)

These stains survive both frozen and fixed section processing. 25% merbromin stains weakly, and is sometimes difficult to differeniate from the eosin staining. For this reason we also make a double strength red (50%) which effects a much positive staining, and is much easier to identify than the 25%.

We have recently introduced a yellow and green, which have been derived from a latex based printers ink. These have been tested, and do not leave a thick residue, yet leave a sufficient layer to make identification obvious, and survive both fresh and frozen section processing.

If multiple biospies have been taken, each may be marked with a different color on the base to positively identify each lesion, and avoid labeling errors.

Each is available in standard 1/2 and 1 oz bottles. Redwood holders are available in 3, 4 and 5 across to fit both the 1/2 and 1 oz sizes. These organize, prevent spillage, and reduce misplacements.

4 oz, 8 oz and 16 oz sizes available on request.
