During CO2 laser surgery, electrosurgery and similar procedures, a particulate-laden plume of smoke and odor is created that is associated with known and suspected irritant, infections and carcinogenic risks. Worldwide studies indicate that proper filtration can greatly minimize exposure to such contaminants.
The SaftEvac Smoke Evacuator removes dangerous airborne matter by utilizing 2-stage filtration, removing particulates and odor, reducing exposure to a minimal level efficiently and economically. The hose end is placed between 2 feet and 3 feet from the surgical area, pulling the airflow away from the area through a filter system (a viral charcoal and carbon filter on the unit itself), which acts as a barrier to water and airborne moisture.
The SaftEvac smoke-fume evacuator is designed to be the most effective system available on the market. Particulate filtration has 99.9999% efficiency at 2.7 micron (worst case 0.2 micron).
Odor absorption via activated charcoal. Airflow is approximately 0.5 CFM to max. Noise level is 60-65 decibels at 1 meter. Weighs 20 pounds.
Filters have a longevity of 30 minutes of smoke suction. Filter and tubing (22 mm ID) disposable after procedure. Overall dimensions: 10"W x 14"H x 10"D. Power consumption 700 watts, 1100 maximum.
Filters were tested for viral filtration efficiency (mean particle size 2.7 µm) and bacterial filtration efficiency (~10 µm) yielding efficiencies of >99.9999% in both cases.
Tubing holder stand, aluminum wand and foot switch optional.
EV/P is used for all smoke producing procedures, such as laser or electrosurgery. For dust producing procedures, e.g. power debriding of a nailplate, use EV/N and replacement viral filter EV/R.
Improved filter design incorporates odor and viral filtration within the same filter (EV/RC). Both viral filters (EV/R and EV/RC) fit most brands of smoke evacuators.
