When you sign for the shipment, the carrier and the law assumes that you are also signig that the shipment is received in good condition, releasing the carrier from any and all liability. For that reason, the drivers usually press for signature.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE SHIPPING CONTAINER BE CAREFULLY EXAMINED ON ALL SIX SIDES. ANY DENTS, TEARS, HOLES,CRUSHED PACKAGING, OR SOUNDS OF LOOSE PARTS SHOULD BE RECORDED ON THE FREIGHT BILL OR DELIVERY RECEIPT WHEN SIGNING AND HAVE THE DRIVER SIGN ALL COPIES. Failure to make such notations or adequately describe any external damage may result in the delivery carrier refusing to honor a damage claim. If the carton is damaged, you do have the right to open it and inspect the contents (ICC regulation 120). If damage is noted, mark such damage on the freight bill or delivery receipt and have the driver sign all copies.

Concealed damage may not be evident until the product is unpacked and inspected. By law, you have only 15 days from date of receipt to file a carrier claim for concealed damage. Some carriers have claimed that a simple unqualified signed freight bill releases the carrier from any and all damage claims, including concealed. We strongly suggest signing the freight bill: Received, but not inspected for or released from concealed damage by:

If concealed damage is discovered after opening, SAVE ALL CARTONS AND PACKING MATERIALS UNTIL INSPECTED. Call the delivering freight company as soon as possible for an inspection. If you need help in arranging for an inspection and claim, call Delasco at 1-800-831-6273.

Insurance for your shipment is included in the freight charge, and any claim for damage must be handled through the delivering carrier. Failure to follow the above procedure may void your insurance. Delasco cannot be responsible for carrier damage.

Truck delivery:
It is standard custom that the driver does not normally unload the shipment, and will require assistance in unloading. If inside delivery is required (somewhere other than a truck shipping dock) the shipping company will usually assess you an additional charge.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact Delasco by phone at 800-831-6273, fax at 800-320-9612 or via email at questions@delasco.com. Thank you for your business.
