| Dermatophyte test media is prepared with Peptone 110, Dextrose, Agar, Phenol Red, and Cyclohexamide. PH is 5.5 +/-.2 at 25 degrees C.
It is packed in 1 oz wide mouth glass bottle, with the yellow-orange media on a slant. The antibiotics suppress bacterial growth, and some unwanted saprophytes. The media contains a pH sensitive indicator, which turns red in presence of the metabolic products of Dermatophyte growth. Hyphae which are culture on this media do not take on characteristic colony morphology, and the hyphae are sterile without the microscopic forms used for species identification. Supplied with identification labels, for patient name, date, and location.
This media is dependent upon a color change to red to identify dermatophytic organisms.
CLIA: Clia requirements for quality control are met in the manufacturing process, and a statement for the manufacturing quality control for the lot is stated on the package insert.
