Laboratory \ Mycobiotic Agar

Mycobiotic Agar Information

Mycobiological media is prepared with Peptone, Dextrose, and Agar. Also contains cyclohexamide and chloramphemicol. PH is 6.9 +/- .2 at 25 degrees C.

It is packed in 1 oz wide mouth glass bottle, with the media on a slant. The antibiotics suppress bacterial growth, and some unwanted saprophytes. Species identification is made by a combination of gross colony and microscopic identification. Supplied with identification labels, for patient name, date, and location.

CLIA: Clia requirements for quality control are met in the manufacturing process, and a statement for the manufacturing quality control for the lot is stated on the package insert.

Storage: Room temperature
Incubation: Room temperature, with a loose cap
Time of incubation: Up to 21 days
Autoclaving is recommended before discarding.

Directions: Sample (skin scrapings, hair or nail clippings) are dropped onto the media. Using a sterile blade or instrument to force the specimens slightly into the media usually provides better results.
