Nail Micronizer User Instructions

NAIL MICRONIZER
USER INSTRUCTIONS

All of the parts in the Glas-Col Micronizer are stainless steel and
will not rust. The Micronizer may be autoclaved (wet or dry), boiled
or washed with any detergent.

OPERATION

To operate the Micronizer, place a small specimen in the lower
holder on the grinding surface. Press the two holders together
(grinding surfaces facing each other) and rotate them in opposite
directions, about a half turn, several times. Separate the holders
and remove the specimen.

MAINTENANCE

The Micronizer has been adjusted at the factory for a clearance of
.004" between the grindinq inserts. This clearance has been found
most effective for grinding nail clippings. The clearance can easily
be changed if necessary. When adjusting the clearance, only the
upper holder insert should be adjusted. The bottom of the insert in
the bottom holder should always remain flush with the bottom of the
holder. Adjustment is made by loosening the set screw in the upper
holder, adjusting the insert to the desired height and tightening the
set screw.

To reset clearance to .004", be sure bottom insert is flush with the
bottom of the bottom holder and the setscrew is tight. Place a small
piece of bond paper on the lower grinding surface to use as a gauge.
With the upper insert loose in the holder, place the holders together
with the paper between the grinding surfaces and tighten the upper
insert set screw. Bond paper is very close to .004" thick and readily
available to use as a gauge.

To change inserts loosen the set screws in the holders and let the
inserts fall into your hand. Do not force them out with a tool or
hit them with a hard object which could cause a dent or burr. Install
the new or sterilized inserts as described in the paragraph above.

If a set screw is lost it should be replaced with a stainless steel
1/4-20 x 3/8" cup point. Using anything else could rust and cause
sample contamination or freeze the insert to the holder so it
couldn't be removed.
