Protection \ Corneal Shield Kit

Insertion Instructions & Cautions

After anesthetizing the eye with topical procaine drops, the Corneal Shield is easily inserted. With the patient looking upward, insert the shield into the inferior fornix of the conjuctiva. The blue handle can be suctioned onto the convex surface to facilitate insertion and removal of the corneal shield.

Caution: Corneal abrasion can occur due to improper insertion of the shield. If the edge of the shell scratches the cornea, patients may complain of a Foreign body Sensation. When the shell is removed patients may have Photo Phobia and a Red Eye. Treatment includes antibiotics and eye patch. In order to prevent infections, the shell should be sterilized with a disinfectant solution for 15 minutes. The concave side of the shield should be coated with antibiotic ointment. The Corneal Shields are polished smooth and made FDA Approved Medical Plastic.
