Reference \ Pharmacology Dermatotoxicology Methods: The Laboratory Worker's Vade Mecum
Francis N Marzulli, Howard I Maibach, editors, 390 pp., 50 illus., 1998.
This work presents and evaluates methods currently employed to identify the potential of certain types of chemicals to adversely affect the skin. The text includes sixteen new chapters and several revised ones to address a wide variety of laboratory test methods.
Tests for chemicals that affect the reproductive and nervous system are covered as well as tests for penetration, metabolism, and irritation; effects on the skin immune system; photo effects; skin cancer; and the topical effects if retinoids and depigementing chemicals.
The manual proceeds beyond addressing the function of the tests to examine the methods of the tests, including standardized animal and human tests as well as those still in development that implement animal alternatives.
