MadaJet XL and Use of Steroids

The use of steroids has been well documented. The areas according to medical specialties using steroids are numerous; however, the major areas are: Dermatology, Orthopedics and Plastic/Reconstructive Surgery.

Although most of the steroids can be given orally, there is considerable evidence concerning the dangers of doing so, especially in the specialties listed above, where blood titers (levels) of steroids often present serious clinical problems.

The MadaJet XL provides some real clinical advantages where the physicians can use steroids intradermic. These advantages are:

1. Small amounts by volume can produce dramatic localized anti-inflammatory responses by using "Jet Injection" technique.

2. There is normally considerable pain experienced by the patient when steroids are used intradermally, or intraarterially with the syringe and needle technique.

3. Large amount by volume of steroids by the needle and syringe technique and the danger of high levels of blood titers, can be greatly reduced by use of the MadaJet XL.

4. By diluting steroids with 2% lidocaine with epinephrine in the MadaJet XL the discomfort from the steroids is almost eliminated, and the "ache" or post injection pain caused by steroids is eliminated. The suggested mixture for this is as follows:

1/4 or 1/3 by volume of 2% Lidocaine to 3/4 or 2/3 of steroid.

Example: If you mix 0.3 ml of anesthetic to 0.7 ml of steroid you would have 1.0 ml or cc. This would provide nine (9) injections with the MadaJet XL.

Note: On the primary visit by the patient, the initial dilutions could be 50% by volume of steroid to anesthetic and then decrease the volume of anesthetic in the mixture.
