Maintenance of the Handpieces
A. SH-Series Straight Handpieces:
1) Remove the handpiece from the micromotor immediately after surgery by pulling it apart.
2) Remove the bur. Hold the handpiece firmly against the spray nozzle of the oil can. Using a silicone-type oil, spray oil the handpiece for one second until spray can be seen coming out of
the tip of the handpiece.
3) Pull apart the nose cone from the main body of the handpiece. Make certain that the spray oil has penetrated enough to reach the nose cone.
4) Immersion clean both the nose cone and the handpiece in an ultrasonic cleaner or in warm water. The sprayed oil helps to prevent the blood from hardening and also to make the cleaning
more effective.
CAUTION: Do not use cleaning agents that attack aluminum in the ultrasonic cleaner, or the handpiece will be badly tarnished and eventually corrode after repeated procedures.
5) If the steps (2), (3), and (4) have not been followed, spray oil both the handpiece and nose cone BEFORE AUTOCLAVING. Drain oil thoroughly from the handpiece by standing it vertically to prevent seepage of oil into the micromotor.
6) STEAM AUTOCLAVE ONLY the handpiece and the nose cone, which have been cleaned and oiled, and the autoclavable motor casing. If the handpiece has not been cleaned sufficiently, autoclaving will coagulate the blood inside and will damage bearing and other mechanisms, causing sluggish movement and overheating.

B. CS-Series Contra Angle Handpieces:
1) Remove the handpiece from the micromotor.
2) Remove the contra head from the contra shank by shifting the shank neck ring in the arrowed direction.
3) Spray oil the contra head and the contra shaft separately. A piece of cloth of cotton ball may be used to hold the contra head while spraying.
4) Follow the steps (3) through (6) for the Straight Handpieces to complete the cleaning procedure.

Care of the Power Control Unit
A Circuit Breaker inside the Control box protects the Micromotor from damage caused by excess load applied to the Handpiece. If the Micromotor stops suddenly, TURN OFF THE MAIN SWITCH AND TURN IT BACK ON. Operation will resume automatically.

If none of the Pilot lamps is ON check the Reset Button on the back of the box. If the button is out, TURN OFF THE MAIN SWITCH, PUSH THE RESET BUTTON IN and TURN THE MAIN SWITCH ON. If the reset button pops out again, FIND THE CAUSE such as an electrical
short and ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM before turning the unit back on.
