Instructions for Use

Indications

DermaSeal Skin Closure Strips are intended for use as a primary skin closure for minor incisions or lacerations or for wound reinforcement after removal of sutures or staples. Note: Closure of subcutaneous tissue by an absorbable suture is a common practice. However, sutures are not always required when applying skin closure strips to skin surface (epidermal layer).

Selection of Strips

The length and width of strips are related proportionately to the length and tension of the wound -- the longer the wound and the greater its disruptive tension, the longer and wider the strips.

Instructions for Use

1. Clean and dry at least 3 inches around wound site with isopropyl alcohol or sterile saline. DO NOT USE ADHESIVE ACCELERATORS. Using sterile precautions, peel open package and remove card. Remove strips as needed. For wounds over joints, or other areas where motion might cause “scissoring” of wound surfaces, a crisscross application of tapes is preferable for efficient splinting.

2. Press one end of strip firmly into place at mid-point of wound up to edge of incision, at right angles to edge.

3. Bring skin edges together and press the other half of the strip firmly in place, making sure not to stretch the strip.

4. Close entire wound with additional strips. Spacing should be approximately 1/8” (3mm) apart to allow for wound drainage. Make sure skin surface is dry before applying next strip.

5. Sometimes large wounds gap under initial strip or two, due to stress. Remove these strips, realign wound edges, and apply fresh strips.

6. Additional strips may be applied 1/4” (6mm) from, and parallel to, the wound (ladder fashion) to help distribute tension and lessen separation stress.

7. When healing is judged adequate, DermaSeal Skin Closures may be removed by peeling off each strip, up to wound margin, then gently lifting strip away from wound surface. DO NOT LIFT ONE END AND PULL ACROSS THE WOUND TO REMOVE.

Contraindications

DermaSeal Skin Closure Strips are not indicated for use in closing any tissue other than the epidermal layer.

Precautions

Use no cleaning solutions on or around wound area. Take proper care during strip removal to keep from disturbing wound.
