Built on Real Clinical Needs

Our Origin Story

James Dolezal was a registered pharmacist living in California during the 1960s when he became increasingly frustrated by his inability to compound and prescribe custom formulations he knew could benefit his customers. Determined to make a greater impact, he sold his pharmacies and returned to his alma mater, Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, to attend medical school. He later completed his dermatology residency at the University of Iowa.

In 1977, after finishing his residency, “Dr. D.” opened a dermatology practice in Council Bluffs, Iowa. However, he quickly grew dissatisfied with the limited availability of products that met his high standards of care. Drawing on both his pharmacy and medical training, he began developing and compounding his own formulations at night, using a spare patient room in his office.

Once confident in the effectiveness of his creations, Dr. D. instructed his office manager to mail flyers listing his formulations to former classmates from medical school and residency. Orders soon began trickling in. Each day, they were recorded on a sheet at the front desk; each night, after seeing patients, Dr. D. personally formulated the products and shipped them out the following day. Word spread quickly within the dermatology community, and soon the Dermatological Laboratory Supply Company—now known as Delasco— was born.

Today, Delasco is a leading designer, manufacturer, and marketer of dermatology and skin care products. The company offers more than 2,500 products and serves more than 8,500 dermatology and medical practices annually.
